From her latest milestone projects such as the Il Sereno hotel on Lake Como to acclaimed product design for Italian design houses, the pace of her work is notable for its rigour, emotion and inovation. Sarah Miller, founding editor of Conde Nast Traveller and now luxury brand ambassador for the Wall Street Journal, talks to the renowned Spanish architect and designer about the evolution of a dynamic design aesthetic that has been credited with bringing a new era of contemporary living. Nipa Doshi co-founded the globally acclaimed design studio Doshi Levien with her partner Jonathan Levien in 2000. It has since become one of the most sought-after practices in the world, working with a host of leading international brands, museums and cultural institutions. They bring together many worlds to their work. Nipa’s approach is rooted in her plural upbringing and astute eye for visual culture. Jonathan’s approach is rooted in industrial precision, combined with the sensibility of a makers’ hand and deep understanding of materials. Working across disciplines and industries, Doshi Levien’s work celebrates the hybrid and explores the coming together of cultures, technology, industrial design and fine craftsmanship. With editor Talib Choudhry, Nipa discusses how their unique way of looking at material culture is translated into their design work and how they live.
